We are seeking an AI Engineer with strong hands-on experience in software engineering, applied artificial intelligence, and machine learning, together with effective collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills, to join a cross-functional engineering team. The successful candidate will design, build, integrate, and support secure, scalable, production-ready AI capabilities that solve practical customer and business problems.
This role combines AI and machine learning engineering, generative AI application development, backend and API integration, data workflows, production operations, and responsible AI practices. You will work closely with product managers, software and data engineers, security specialists, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into reliable, maintainable, and cloud-ready solutions. You will also use modern AI-assisted engineering tools to improve development, testing, debugging, evaluation, and documentation while ensuring that outputs meet established standards for correctness, security, maintainability, and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Develop AI and machine learning features for customer-facing and internal applications.
Build language-model applications such as assistants, chatbots, document-processing tools and workflow automations.
Develop retrieval-augmented generation pipelines using embeddings, vector search and structured or unstructured data.
Build and maintain APIs and backend services that support AI models and applications.
Implement secure API integrations using OAuth or comparable authorization flows, safe token handling, and webhooks.
Integrate commercial and open-source AI models into existing products.
Prepare, clean and validate datasets for model training, testing and evaluation.
Perform prompt design, model testing and systematic output evaluation.
Implement tool calling, structured responses and multi-step AI workflows.
Write reusable, maintainable and well-tested production code.
Containerize and deploy AI services to cloud environments.
Operate production AI services using rate limiting, retries, structured logging, memory and state management, and cost monitoring.
Investigate production issues and improve AI performance using test cases and user feedback.
Apply security and privacy controls to reduce prompt-injection, data-leakage and unsafe-output risks.
Collaborate with engineers, data specialists, product managers and business stakeholders.
Maintain clear documentation for AI services, experiments and deployment procedures.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or a related discipline.
At least four years of professional experience in the software industry, including one to three years of hands-on AI and machine learning experience. The AI and machine learning experience forms part of the four-year total.
Strong proficiency in Python for AI development and backend integration.
Working knowledge of at least one additional language such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, C#, Go or Scala.
Working knowledge of SQL and experience with relational, NoSQL or vector databases.
Practical experience developing or integrating AI and machine learning solutions within software applications.
Exposure to large language model APIs, retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents, natural language processing, computer vision or predictive modelling.
Experience building REST APIs with FastAPI, Flask, Django or a comparable framework.
Familiarity with Git, automated testing, Docker, CI/CD and at least one major cloud platform.
Good analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively in English.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel or comparable frameworks.
Familiarity with PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn or Hugging Face.
Practical experience developing Model Context Protocol servers or reusable AI connectors.
Experience with PostgreSQL and pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma or another vector database.
Knowledge of asynchronous Python and FastAPI.
Exposure to model monitoring or MLOps workflows.
Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React or Next.js.
