Product Owner

We’re seeking an experienced Product Owner to help deliver innovative, cloud-based solutions that enhance institutional effectiveness for education and healthcare organizations.
You’ll be joining our client, a UK-based company that provides platforms designed to improve performance management, workload planning, and staff engagement. The suite of products supports universities and healthcare providers in streamlining operations, fostering collaboration, and enabling data-driven decision-making.

As the Product Owner, you’ll translate strategy into actionable plans, drive product vision, and ensure that each release delivers meaningful impact to customers. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including Product Management, Design, Development, QA, and Operations—to deliver scalable, secure, and user-centered products tailored to the unique needs of complex organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Strategy and Vision:

  • Work with the Product Manager(s) and other key Stakeholders to define and communicate the vision and strategy for the suite of products and the shared components library.
  • Promote and support alignment between the different Product roadmaps to balance the consistency required across all products alongside the individual product needs.
  • Ensure consistency and reusability across products.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Act as a key point of contact for the products and any shared libraries.
  • Gather and prioritise requirements from stakeholders, understanding the dependencies from both a technical and business perspective.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings as required to align teams on goals, priorities, and Company design principles and standards.

Backlog Management:

  • Create, refine, and prioritise product and component backlogs to ensure timely delivery of features.
  • Collaborate with the teams to write clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria (or other such documentation as defined/ required from time to time).
  • Balance the focus between functionality and non-functional delivery, to avoid non-essential technical debt and maintain the long-term health of the products.

Delivery and Iteration:

  • Align release plans with product goals.
  • Coordinate with the Scrum Master, together providing leadership of the Scrum Team.
  • Collaborate with the stakeholders to ensure the resource plan supports product goals.
  • Lead and participate in the required meetings and ceremonies. Refinement, planning, triage and review meetings included, to optimise team performance and utilisation.
  • Develop standard non-functional requirements (NFR), focussing on areas such as accessibility, performance and security.
  • Monitor product performance and user feedback to identify areas for improvement.
  • Define, track and report define key metrics to measure the success of delivery, and to evaluate opportunities for continuous improvement.

Communication and Documentation:

  • Clearly communicate the approved roadmap, priorities, and progress to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Provide visibility of the product backlog to enable clarity on the product health.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for the shared components library, design system and Products, including usage guidelines and best practices.
  • Ensure up to date VPAT reports are available for all products that you have responsibility for.

What We Expect:

  • 5+ years in a Product Owner or equivalent role (in a software / SaaS environment).
  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role in a SaaS or enterprise software environment.
  • Strong foundation in requirements engineering and delivery best practices.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven mindset, with hands-on experience managing product backlogs or shared component libraries.
  • Deep understanding of software development lifecycles and the ability to select and apply the most effective methodology for each initiative.
  • Sound knowledge of front-end development principles and design systems, ensuring consistency and usability across product interfaces.
  • Good grasp of non-functional requirements such as accessibility, performance, and security, and their importance to product success.
  • Technical acumen with working knowledge of APIs, frameworks, and databases, enabling meaningful collaboration with development teams.
  • Proficiency with modern design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Storybook, or equivalent platforms.
  • Awareness of compliance, data privacy, and accessibility standards, and how these shape responsible product design.
  • Ability to evaluate business value and ROI for new product features and initiatives.
  • Practical understanding of user-centred design and usability testing, ensuring decisions are grounded in user feedback.
  • Adaptable and resilient, able to manage change, learn quickly, and stay focused on high-priority outcomes.
  • Iterative mindset, embracing feedback and continuously improving product strategy and execution.
  • Strong judgement and stakeholder awareness, knowing when to escalate challenges and how to communicate effectively to avoid surprises.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude, supporting collaboration and maintaining focus on outcomes.

  • Certified in Product Management and Agile frameworks
  • Comprehensive understanding of the education and healthcare sectors, their operational challenges, and how these influence product design and delivery.
